Tribute
"Discobolus" commemorates the involvement of the Australian Greek community in the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It commemorates the Hellenic virtues of "sound mind and sound body" and is linked to similar Tribute sites in the United States of America (USA) and Greece.
Together, these sites provide an enduring connection to memories of the Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games in Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, and Athens 2004.

Discobolus was funded by the Hellenic community of Australia and commissioned as part of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Public Art Program. The public art work project was officially launched by the Honourable Michael Knight MP, Minister for the Olympics, at a NSW Parliament House Function on 19 February 1999, and unveiled by his Excellency the Honourable Sir William Deane AC, KBE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia on 13 August 2000.

The first Olympic Games were held in Ancient Greece,
Olympia in 776 BC.
The original Discobolus, sculpted by Myron, about
460-450 BC captures the peak of human athleticism, rhythmic harmony and balance foundational to the Ancient Hellenic ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body"
2000 — SYDNEY OLYMPIC LEGACY
Discobolus was established at Sydney Olympic Park as a permanent tribute to the Sydney Olympic Athletes and the enduring connection between Australian culture and Greek classical heritage.
PRESENT — CULTURAL PRESERVATION
The Hellenic Tribute (Reconstituted) Inc. actively collaborates with the Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) to preserve the Discobolus monument so it remains for future generations.

To implement periodic audits to assure the core components of the Discobolus public artwork artistic and heritage value are maintained to the original Artist's design and intent.
Communication with Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) to ensure Discobolus remains a protected landmark amidst the evolving urban landscape of Sydney.
